This is a little book I did a couple of days ago. I made this little book using the Cloud Nine Meadow collection. Doesn’t have photos yet but Grandpa in Minnesota is the outdoorsy type. I used the drill to make the accordion a book and added binder rings. Paper and twill create pockets for the tags. Tags pull out and some contain Nature quotes (Cloud Nine) and others journaling. I also used the cute Heidi Grace pins (love those things) and paper. Made the first page look like a plant stake. Watch for a similar demo in the So. California area. Thanks for looking. Happy Father’s Day all you male crafters. I know you’re out there and do awesome work.

I received a package from my Fiskars sister Stephenie. Check out the cute package. Inside the package was the cd and a sweet card . . . she didn’t even know the story behind it but I know Someone knew. What a sweet and thoughtful gift. I’m grateful for my new friend and Fiskars Sister. Thank you Stephenie.

Ok, I admit it, I am a music snob. Not in the, I only listen to classical music way, but in the I have my favorite bands kind of way. It takes a lot for a new artist to catch my attention enough to buy their cd or download a song from iTunes (an amazing invention). Recently, however, I have made a few purchases. One is the latest from OAR. Now, my younger brother has listened to them for years and raved. I guess I should have listened sooner. I decided to take a chance and download the entire cd to my iPod (first generation with the buttons - it is a dinosaur, but I love it and can’t live without it!) It is my new favorite. I feel like I have been missing out on something by not listening to them all this time. The second new artist that I am digging right now is Natasha Bedingfield and her song Unwritten. I just love the music and the lyrics. Something about it just speaks to me. I like music that makes you think about life, but also has a great sound. And, yes, I do love my Offspring, Green Day, Bon Jovi, and BNL - don’t hate me ’cause I’m wacky that way… But a good relevant song is nice, too. So, I guess this music snob is broadening her horizons and letting in some fresh music to liven things up a bit. I am sure there is much work to be done, but it’s a start.

Remember how I mentioned that last weekend my car was broken into and my camera was stolen? It happened in Charlotte, NC while I was visiting my boyfriend, Adam. As far as break-ins are concerned it was pretty tame, very little damage, and they only took my camera and a tee shirt (I loved that shirt…). Of course I am a girl that is attached to her camera, it goes everywhere with me, (as it does with most scrapbookers, you get the best pages that way) so I was very sad to see it go. And I don’t really have the money lying around to run out and buy another one, so it’s going to be a while before I can run to the store and get a new one.
But guess what?!?

I got a new camera this weekend! My boyfriend bought it for me! And let me tell you, it is way nicer than the one I had! When he took me to the store and told me his plan, I wasn’t sure how I felt about it, a camera is a big deal, and it wasn’t his fault mine was stolen. I felt sort of funny standing there in front of all of those pretty cameras, I was having a hard time picking one out ’cause I didn’t want to get one that was nicer than I need or unnecessarily expensive, so he finally picked one out for me. And he picked a really good one! I still felt funny about him buying it for me while he was standing there paying for it, but let me tell you, once it was paid for, I had a hard time not dancing around right there in the middle of the store. I do believe a little skip may have slipped out, it’s not very dignified for an adult to skip in the middle of the store, but I just couldn’t help it.

He told me I could just file it away as a bad boyfriend tax, but let me tell you guys, he’s not a bad boyfriend, he’s a great boyfriend! By far the sweetest, best looking boy out there! And we have the best time together. I love him!

I wanted to take a picture to document the occasion, but the battery wasn’t charged, so here’s another one.

This is a phrase that my two year old uses a lot. When I leave to go to my regular job, he says, “Good day, mama!” And yesterday was a good day.

Can I just say, first of all, that my husband makes the best waffles! Growing up, Matt’s mom taught him and his brother to make a breakfast item once they were old enough and every other Sunday he made the family breakfast. Ask him to do any other cooking not using a grill and we have trouble, but great waffles. Anyway…yesterday we had the famous Matthew waffle - Owen’s with extra syrup - played with the kids, and stayed in our jammies too long.

Then, I packed it up and headed into the city to the Original Gino’s East in Chicago for pizza and to meet Virginia Miracle (is that not the coolest name ever?) for lunch. VeeDub, as she likes to be called, is one of the staff from Brains on Fire www.brainsonfire.com , which is the company Fiskars hired to help launch the Fiskateers. We had lots of fun catching up and eating Chicago style pizza. For those of you who don’t know, the Original Gino’s East is now in the old Planet Hollywood. It is a huge space. And, every inch of that space is covered in layers of graffiti that they moved from their old site to the new site. Every piece of furniture, wall, etc… is covered in Sharpie Markers and White Out with signatures, phrases, dates, websites, and more dating back to who knows when. There is layer over layer. Pretty neat place to see… Anyway, we braved the city traffic to O’Hare, which was terrible yesterday, but it gave us more time to chat.

After I dropped her off, too close to her flight time for comfort (only to find out this morning that her flight was canceled and she sat in the airport for a while), I went home and had some more fun play time with the kids before heading out to another crop, this time at Memories & Beyond in Downers Grove. This was my first time helping to host a crop, do some demos, and a make-n-take as a Fiskateer. I had a blast! I got to hand out goodies and demo the craft drill. I even had time to get a two-page layout done for myself!

It may have been a long day with lots of spent gas, driving around, but I can honestly say that it was a good day for this mama…

Love your craft.

I was intrigued by several of the shape cutting templates Fiskars makes, and so I decided to try the Ultra ShapeXpress and see how it works. It sounded to easy- just put the tool in the template, cut along edges and you’ll have a cut shape. Well once I figured out I had the template upside down (doh!) it worked FABULOUSLY. And the tool works freehand too. (can’t wait to give that a go!)

Here is my first project with it. It’s box #2- how cute is it? It comes with a scoring template too so you can get nice clean folds. (I just used a pen and pressed hard over the scoring lines because I don’t have a scoring tool- it worked just fine) The chipboard on this is from Heidi Grace (woodland) and the paper is Making Memories (love that Boho Chic!!!)

So if you see me at a crop you’ll likely see me doing a make ‘n take with this tool (and the HG chipboard of course!!!) and I’m going to make a bunch more of these little boxes to fill with treats and treasures to give away too. =)

Happy crafting!

Last night I went to a crop, not to be out there promoting anything, but just to create. I often get so engrossed in what I am doing that I don’t pay attention to what others are doing and how they are “scrapping the love.” Last night, however, I took the time to walk around a bit and see what people were working on. I just love to see the passion behind creating a memorable page. That is what it is all about. Whether it is simple with clean lines, or intricate with rub-ons, paint, and sparkles, it is all about preserving your memories. The way each person poured over the picture, matching it against paper, finding just the right words and embellishments reminded me why we do this ~ to scrap our passion; to scrap our lives; to scrap our love. Thank you to the scrappers at Scrapbooking Lodge in Elgin www.scrapbookinglodge.com ~ your dedication and passion reminded me once again why I truly love this job!
